Clemmie Moodie

The Sun

Clemmie Moodie broke a string of showbusiness exclusives, from the departure of ‘Strictly’ professional Giovanni Pernice amid bullying allegations, to the BBC’s sacking of golden boy Jermaine Jenas after inappropriate texts, to the planned departure of Gary Lineker as ‘Match of the Day’ host. Three of her stories led the BBC 10 o’clock News.

“I think it would be fair to say I have a problem,” admitted Jenas in an hour-long mea culpa interview with Moodie less than 24 hours after she had revealed he had been fired from ‘Match of the Day’ and ‘The One Show’, “I know I need help.” He also revealed that he was considering suing the broadcaster over the way it handled his sacking.

But the ‘Strictly’ revelations were arguably the showbiz story of the year. The story about Pernice quitting opened the floodgates to further disclosures (and complaints by dancing celebrities), including the unprecedented legal action several stars were bringing against the BBC, and that one contestant danced with a broken leg.

The judges singled out the Jenas story for special mention: “While sensational in tone, the piece effectively conveys the gravity of the events and their personal and professional consequences,” they said.
