Dave Brown

The Independent

The Independent’s Dave Brown is a master craftsman of the old school, an accomplished political satirist who draws and paints every cartoon by hand.

Dave provides The Independent with straightforward cartoons during the week. At weekends, he turns his very skilled hand to a pastiche in his Rogues’ Gallery series, expertly weaving world affairs into his unique take on a famous painting.

Dave lives and works in London. He studied Fine Art at Leeds University and, following a brief career in teaching, became a full-time painter. He became a freelance cartoonist in 1989 after winning a political cartoon competition organised by The Sunday Times, and subsequently drew cartoons for a number of newspapers and periodicals. He became editorial cartoonist for The Independent in 1996. He has published two books featuring his ‘Rogues’ Gallery’.

He is also a sculptor and painter whose work has been exhibited widely in the UK.
