Mike Egerton

PA Media photographer Mike Egerton has captured some of the defining sporting images from the sporting world in 2025. 

He was on hand to capture Brazilian footballer Marquinhos as he made his way through the wall of ticker tape before lifting he Champions League trophy in Munich for PSG. He has perfectly captured the power and skill of women’s rugby, recording the moment England’s  Abbie Ward was thrust into the air by her teammates to catch a high ball during their match with USA. It was a key moment on the team’s way to winning the Rugby World Cup Trophy.

And Egerton was lucky enough to be among the European Ryder Cup team celebrations at Bethpage Black golf course, New York. After Europe narrowly beat USA to regain the Ryder Cup trophy, capturing a defining, visceral image of Rory McIlroy getting drenched in champagne as part of the wild victory celebrations.
