The Times

The Times can claim to be the complete multimedia, multi-platform package. The Times (and the Sunday Times) now has 640,000 subscribers for digital alone; combined with print it has more than 700,000 subscribers. In audio, its podcast portfolio continues to grow and Times Radio has enjoyed record growth year-on-year, reaching 622,000 listeners over five million listening hours.

In July, The Times helped expose one of the biggest scandals of the year. Larisa Brown reported that a security breach by a British solider had risked the deaths of tens of thousands of Afghans who had assisted allied forces.

Other impactful investigations include a story about parents who were arrested for comments in a school WhatsApp group, one of the best-read stories globally. Political journalism, including revealing how cabinet secretary Louise Haigh had been convicted of fraud, is a must-read. And overseas reporting, including the US edition, is prompting significant overseas growth.

Aside from news, The Times Magazine is packed with exclusive interviews, real-life stories and agenda-setting columns from Caitlin Moran and Giles Coren, and daily supplement Times 2 regularly generates news-making interviews.

Judges’ comments: “Excellence at every turn… The Times has had a brilliant year, by focusing on its brand for investigations, on-the-ground journalism and some of the best columnists and feature writers.”
