The Times and The Sunday Times
The majority of subscribers to The Times and The Sunday Times read the publications online, with digital readers overwhelmingly opting to use the The Times Live app. In April 2025, The Times relaunched its most important digital asset.
This was a culmination of a two-year project, involving 1,000 subscribers, to reimagine what makes a great mobile reading experience. Readers said it could be difficult to find more of the stories that matter to them, so the aim was to make it easier for subscribers to explore the full depth and breadth of The Times’ journalism.
Enhancements include a new Top Stories homepage; eight sections (UK, World, Comment, Business & Money, Sport, Life & Style, Culture and Magazines); and a Find button that makes it easier to delve deeper. A print edition tab shows how stories appeared in the newspaper, and the ever-popular puzzles are easier to find.
The new Live app has the highest average engagement in the overall newsbrand market (according to Ipsos data). Readers spent an average of 9 hours and 23 mins reading content on the app in September alone. Subscribers are reading more articles and more broadly, with ‘super engaged users’ now the fastest growing group of subscribers.
Judges’ comments: “The redesign of The Times and Sunday Times website and app has been a triumph. It retains the feel of a traditional newspaper, while showcasing striking images, video and graphics to enhance each story.”
