The i Paper

The i Paper has created digital-first content that has increased its inews.co.uk subscriber base by nearly 70 per cent in a year – and you can see why. A visual redesign has created a lively fresh look: both the homepage and app are dominated by colourful digital-first illustrations that help inject a youthful energy, and the content is clear and easy to read. The readership is young – mainly under 65 – and evenly split between genders.

Content has been driven by hard-hitting scoops that hold power to account and uncover injustice in the best tradition of public-interest journalism. Across its homepage, app, newsletters and off-platform accounts, the i Paper’s newsroom has delivered genuine policy change that will help protect Britain’s rivers from sewage, exposed a health scandal caused by modern kitchen renovations, revealed a second Post Office IT scandal linked to wrongful convictions of postmasters, and delivered a #MeToo moment for men in a groundbreaking investigation into the impact of male sexual assault.

It's not bad for a newsroom a fraction the size of its broadsheet peers. “An impressive offering focused around well-chosen topics across public interest, comment and entertainment,” the judges concluded, praising “lots of interesting takes on the day’s big stories.”
