Rachel Matthews

I have an academic and professional interest in the regional newspaper industry. I am an NCTJ-qualified journalist who spent 15 years in editorial before making the move to teaching and research. I now work with academics, newspaper businesses, policy makers and communities to research the role local news of local news in the past, present and future. Among my academic publications is The History of the Provincial Press in England, which charts the development of the local newspaper as a distinct media form from its origins in the 18th century to today.
